STEP-UPS: Step onto a gym (or park) bench with one leg, and bring the other leg up while lifting the knee to crunch the abs. For best results, hold two 10-pound weights. It’s hard — when my mom first started, she could only do three sets of five. Now she does three sets of 12 on each side.

LEG THROWDOWNS: Have your mom lie down on a mat. Stand behind her head. She should hold onto your feet while she swings her legs up. Catch them and throw them back down. But remember — her legs can’t touch the floor! Do as many as you can.
