Is it better to work for a male or female boss?

Is it better to work for a male or female boss? I’ve got two job offers — one from each — and don’t know if I should factor that into my decision.

It only matters if you’ve got some sort of problem working for men or women — in which case you have bigger problems than deciding which job offer to choose. Why stop there? Maybe you should inquire about your prospective managers’ ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation, too — so you can make a fully informed decision about who makes the better boss. Let me know when you return from the 1960s, and we can talk about how many other things have evolved since then. In the meantime, let’s stop asking such questions, which tend to only reinforce negative stereotypes. When considering which person to work for, opt for the boss who seems smart and ethical — someone you can learn from who is willing to teach.
