Retailers considering larger pants pockets to fit iPhone 6 Plus

Thinking about splurging on a new iPhone 6 Plus? You may want to make sure it fits in your pocket first.

With the launch of Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last month, retailers are considering enlarging the pocket sizes on pants to accommodate the 5.5-inch “phablet.” As Mashable reports, J.Crew, Levi’s and L.L. Bean are among five major brands looking to revamp their merchandise.

“Currently our men’s pockets already accommodate the larger phones including the iPhone 6 [and 6 plus]. Women’s is still being evaluated,” an American Eagle spokesperson confirmed to Mashable on Tuesday.

While some labels are just beginning to brainstorm, Lee Jeans designer Whitney Neary admits that the company began discussions of enlarging pocket sizes before the iPhone 6’s September release.

“It’s something that we always are considering, in terms of the functionality of our garments. Of course, we’re always going to make sure that we’re going for something that’s flattering for the consumer … but we’re always thinking about how she wears the garment, what occasion she’s wearing the jeans for and what she needs to just make them work for her everyday life.”

Larger pockets will not only make everyday life easier for iPhone users, but could possibly resolve the issue of iPhones bending as well.
