If you watch one match today, make it Uruguay-Italy

A rundown of the World Cup matches Tuesday, the final games in Groups C and D:

Uruguay vs. Italy

Noon, ESPN
at Nadal
Favorite: Uruguay

With Costa Rica in, this is for survival in the Group of Champions. The Azzurri only need a tie, while Uruguay has to win to advance. Luis Suarez sparked the Uruguayan attack when he returned in the win over England. He’ll match up against Italy striker Mario Balotelli, equally enigmatic and controversial. But is there room in the Uruguayan attack for venerable Diego Forlan?

England vs. Costa Rica

Noon, ESPN2
at Belo Horizonte
Favorite: England

The Three Lions are inexplicably still favored despite looking toothless, already eliminated with two group stage losses for the first time since 1950. Costa Rica can clinch Group D with a tie, but may still shuffle its lineup a bit. Coach Jorge Luis Pinto can’t lose: a win or tie clinches first place, but even a runner-up finish earns a date vs. his home country, Colombia, a team he managed and knows up and down.

Colombia vs. Japan

4 p.m., ESPN
at Cuiaba
Favorite: Colombia

Colombia is already through with a game to spare, but can coach José Pékerman get his team to concentrate on Japan and not the Round of 16, or a potential July 4 quarterfinal with host Brazil? His 4-2-3-1 with Monaco midfielder James Rodríguez has dazzled in counterattack and outscored foes 5-1 even without possession.

Ivory Coast vs. Greece

4 p.m., ESPN2
at Fortaleza
Favorite: Ivory Coast

After mistakes cost them against Colombia, coach Sabri Lamouchi’s Ivory Coast can advance from Group C by beating Greece. Roma forward Gervinho already has two goals, and they’re bringing in Didier Drogba as a supersub. Yaya and Kolo Toure have stayed in Brazil despite the death of their brother, Ibrahim, in England. Offensively inept Greece — which has scored two goals in three World Cups — will play without suspended midfielder Costas Katsouranis.
