Nationals star Werth gets ridiculous speeding ticket

Now there’s another astonishing number to hang on Jayson Werth besides his massive free-agent contract.

The Nationals outfielder, who received a surprising $126 million contract following the 2010 season, was charged with reckless driving in Virginia’s Fairfax County during July 4 weekend for being clocked at 105 miles per hour — 50 miles over the speed limit.

Werth had a court date scheduled for last Friday, but it has since been postponed to Nov. 12. He has been charged with a misdemeanor.

The 35-year-old Werth is in the midst of a strong season, with a .279 batting average with 12 homers and 63 RBIs in 112 games. He’s currently playing through inflammation in the AC joint of his right shoulder, but says he’ll be OK.
