Dellin Betances OK with not playing in All-Star Game

MINNEAPOLIS — Yankees reliever Dellin Betances did not pitch but said he was not disappointed.

“It was definitely exciting to be here with [Derek Jeter], and he goes 2-for-2,’’ he said after the American’s 5-3 win in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game. “It was a great experience. [Adam] Wainwright let Jeter get his ovation and of course Jeter is going to get a hit, what else do you expect?’’

As for not pitching, Betances smiled and said, “I guess I could use the rest and be ready to help the team win the division the second half.’’

Mike Trout, MVP of the game, got to choose between a truck and a sports car.

“I got my dad a truck a couple of weeks ago, so I probably would have chose the truck, if I hadn’t done that,” he said. “But I had to go with the sports car with the ‘Vette.’’

It’s good to be a ballplayer.

The AL now gets home-field advantage in the World Series.

Asked about the system, Boston — and AL — manager John Farrell said, “My personal opinion, I think the overall interleague record is probably more reflective of the American and National Leagues ability to stack up against one another. That’s my personal opinion.’’
