A Kansas man on trial for murder is ruing the day he decided to get the word “MURDER” tattooed across his neck.
Jeffrey Chapman is now worried the jury will be prejudiced against him because of his unique neck art when his first-degree murder trial starts next Monday, the Great Bend Tribune reports.
The man’s defense attorney filed a motion requesting that the tattoo be covered up and not mentioned at all during the trial.
“The fact that he has ‘Murder’ tattooed across his neck is irrelevant to the State’s case and extremely prejudicial to Mr. Chapman if introduced at trial or observed by the jury,” the motion states, according to the Great Bend Tribune.
An unnamed tattoo artist agreed to come to the jail, but under Kansas law, tattoo artists are only allowed to work in licensed tattoo facilities, and the county’s sheriff is unwilling to make an exception for Chapman.
Chapman was accused of killing Damon Galliart in November 2011. Galliart’s body was found in a ditch by hunters.
