Host who called Erin Andews ‘gutless b—h’ won’t be punished

There are no repercussions for calling Erin Andrews a “gutless bitch,” unless going on a pre-planned vacation counts.

WEEI host Kirk Minihane wasn’t on the “Dennis & Callahan” show in Boston on Thursday morning, but it has nothing to do with his foul-mouthed rant toward the FOX sideline reporter.

“Because Kirk was scheduled to be on vacation [Thursday] and Friday, some will conjecture he was suspended or terminated,” Phil Zachary, VP/market manager of Entercom Boston, WEEI’s parent company, told Boston.com on Wednesday night.

“That is not true. His time off was already scheduled in order for Kirk to attend a wedding. Knowing him as I do, he’s legitimately sorry for what he said and, more importantly, the way he said it.”

Minihane did in fact apologize for the rant that was spurred by Andrews’ interview on FOX with Adam Wainwright during the All-Star Game. Andrews seemed to partially give the Cardinals ace a pass after he initially told reporters he had given Derek Jeter an easy pitch to hit to lead off his final All-Star Game.

“What a bitch,” Minihane said. “I hate her. What a gutless bitch. Seriously, go away. Drop dead. I mean seriously, what the hell is wrong with her? First of all, followup. Secondly, the guy admitted he did it. He told reporters he threw a couple of pipe bombs. So how is that social media’s fault?

“I hate her. I seriously hate her so much. Yeah, only if it wasn’t for social … social media is the reason she has a big house. Shut up. Shut up.”

Minihane was criticized for his harsh remarks throughout Wednesday and apologized that evening.

“This morning on the radio I used a series of words to describe Erin Andrews’ work at the All-Star Game,” said Minihane in a statement posted on WEEI’s website .

“My choice of words was wrong; I was wrong to have used them. To all whom I offended — particularly Ms. Andrews — I apologize. There is no place for what was said. It was immature and completely uncalled for. I am often critical of media members and their work and recognize here that I’ve made the kind of mistake I would call out if it was done by another sportscaster or writer. Again, to all involved, I’m very sorry.”
