New Jersey man nearing end of cross-nation cancer walk

A New Jersey man is just two states away from finishing a three-month stroll across America, raising money for cancer research.

Garth Watson, 24, ran, jogged and walked from North Abington, Pa., to Hawley, Pa., on Sunday, with plans to cross the George Washington Bridge into New York on Wednesday.

“Today may have very well been the hilliest day overall so far on this run,” Watson wrote on his blog Sunday.

He plans to hoof it Monday from Hawley to Oak Ridge, NJ, before getting to the foot of the GWB on Tuesday and ending his journey in Gotham a day later.

The Red Bank man has secured more than $14,000 in contributions to Stand Up to Cancer once he completes the journey that began May 11, in Oceanside, Calif.
