‘Orange Is the New Black’ renewed for third season

Ahead of its second-season premiere on June 6, Netflix has renewed “Orange Is the New Black” for Season 3.

Series star Laura Prepon broke the news on her Instagram feed on Monday, posting a photo of Season 3 episode titles with the caption “It’s official!! Season 3!! #oitnb #alexvause #backtothebighouse.”

A Netflix spokesperson also confirmed the renewal.

Prepon — who plays an inmate and the ex-girlfriend of main character Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) in “OITNB” — is set to appear in a limited number of episodes in Season 2, though she is expected to return full time for Season 3.

“Orange” — from creator Jenji Kohan (“Weeds”) — was similarly given an early renewal for Season 2 weeks before the show first premiered last July.
