Jets’ Decker sits: ‘It’s a little bit of a hamstring’

CORTLAND — The Jets’ prized free-agent signing was on the sideline Friday.

Wide receiver Eric Decker sat out most of practice with a hamstring injury.

“It’s a little bit of a hamstring,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said. “It’s not like he pulled a hamstring. We took care of him.”

Ryan did not sound concerned. Decker still is expected to play in Saturday’s Green and White Scrimmage. Decker worked with the trainers early in practice, doing some agility drills.

He participated in some positional drills, but sat out all of the team drills.

The Jets signed Decker to a five-year $36.25 million contract in March, hoping he would be a weapon for quarterback Geno Smith.

The Jets will hold their annual Green and White Scrimmage on Saturday night, dialing up the intensity just a bit from practice.

Not surprisingly, Ryan said Smith will start with the first team at quarterback.

“Then we’ll just kind of go from there,” Ryan said. “We want to get all four quarterbacks (Smith, Michael Vick, Matt Simms and Tajh Boyd) some work. I think it’s going to be set up a little different than it’s been in the past [and] that we’re going to have more opportunities for guys, so a little more snaps.”

RB Chris Johnson will play in the scrimmage. He has been off and on in camp as he recovers from knee surgery.

Rookie S Calvin Pryor will not participate in the scrimmage. He has not been cleared for contact after suffering a concussion a week ago.

He has been cleared for physical activity and has been doing some running at practice and walkthrough periods.

Pryor said this is his first concussion.

“Of course I want to be out there with my teammates,” Pryor said. “Because I want to get as many reps as possible and earn respect from my teammates. But my health right now is a big issue, so I can’t rush back. I am getting my mental reps.”

Pryor, known for hard hits, said the injury will not make him hesitant to hit someone.

“Not at all. I still have to be myself,” he said. “I play physical out there and aggressive.”
