Is there an age limit to the overall trend?

We all see images of celebrities in styles that most people, “real people” (that would be you and I), can’t get away with.

One such oh-so-questionable trend that’s been popping up recently is overalls. Rihanna, Diane Kruger and Sarah Jessica Parker have all been spotted in them. Elisabeth Moss wore a pair — and nothing else — on the cover of New York magazine. Whether you like it or not, they’re back with a vengeance, from long to short, leather to silk, super slouchy to super skinny.

But even with all these fashionable ladies showing up and looking fabulous in them, I had to ask myself, “Am I too old to wear this?” As I near my 35th birthday this year, this seems to be a recurring question.

The only way to find out was to test them, so I snagged a pair of American Eagle denim overall shorts. After styling them with a number of flat sandals, sneakers and tank tops, I decided. I’m not young enough to wear them to everyday events — work, errands or grocery shopping.

I do have an out, though: I can get away with wearing them as a cover-up at the beach, which I certainly plan to do this summer.
