There’s no easy way to lose $1 million, but this is particularly brutal.
Playing in the World Series of Poker’s Big One for One Drop tournament — which costs $1 million to enter — both Connor Drinan and Cary Katz got pocket aces (the best possible starting hand). After both players predictably pushed all their chips into the middle, there was a 96 percent chance they would split the pot.
But four hearts hit the board, giving Katz a flush that sent Drinan home with one awful story.
“The worst beat in the history of tournament poker,” is what ESPN poker commentator Lon McEachern called it on Tuesday night’s broadcast (the event ran live at the end of June).
Drinan missed out on his chance to win the event and the more than $15 million that went to the winner, poker pro Daniel Colman.
