The Mets are not optimistic about Wilmer Flores’ chances of becoming an everyday shortstop, because of his limited range, according to a club source.
Flores has been playing mostly shortstop at Triple-A Las Vegas and is batting .264 with a homer and 14 RBIs. He had also committed six errors.
The 22-year-old is considered a more natural fit for second base, where he is blocked by Daniel Murphy, or third base, where David Wright is installed.
