Couple found in each other’s arms after ‘suicide’ at Hilton

A man and woman were found dead Friday — lovingly wrapped in each other’s arms in bed — in an apparent double suicide in a Hilton Garden Inn hotel on Staten Island, police said.

The bodies of Theresa Mateo, 37, of The Bronx and Scott Jacobi, 35, of Staten Island, were discovered at about 1 p.m. by hotel staffers, who went to look for them because they had not checked out, police said.

“The housekeeper went in and they were just lying in bed together. There was no blood, nothing like that, no signs that weapons were used,” a hotel employee told The Post.

“It’s really sad. They were in their mid-thirties. That’s young,” the worker said about the mysterious deaths. “Thank God we found them quick.”

Theresa Mateo, center, was found dead at the Hilton hotel.

Terry Delre, a Jacobi neighbor for six years, said the deceased was a happy, hardworking guy.

“He was such a good guy. He was such a sweetheart . . . I called him my second son. Clean cut, hardworking, no wild parties, no nothing. I never once seen that boy drunk,” she said.

“I can’t even picture this, he was such a stable-minded guy. I can’t imagine what transpired.”

Police sources said the couple did not leave a note and that there were no weapons in the room or evidence of drugs or drug paraphernalia.

The couple had checked into room 401 of the Hilton on South Avenue in Bulls Head Wednesday at 6 p.m., cops said.

One of Mateo’s neighbors said that when he called her phone, a detective answered and told him the shocking news, which left him “devastated.”
