NYers lodge over 7,000 ice cream truck complaints in 4 years

It’s a jingle out there.

New Yorkers have lodged a brain-freezing 7,031 complaints about music-blasting ice cream trucks in the past four years, city data reveal.

Fed up residents at a Bronx apartment complex take the cake — filing a whopping 132 complaints, more than any other location in the city, according to Department of Environmental Protection data.

“That thing comes around 9:30 p.m. or 10 p.m. and I’m like, are you kidding me?” said Cheryl Fergus, 56, who lives at 3230 Perry Ave. in Norwood, where the most complaints were lodged.

“I’m trying to get my grandkids ready for bed and that ice cream truck comes around. All I hear is, ‘Grandma, grandma, we want ice cream!’ ”

The NYC Noise Code prohibits the trucks from playing their tinkly tunes if stopped, standing or parked — but residents said drivers do so anyway.

“The only time [drivers] turn the music down is if church is going on. It’s so loud, you can hardly hear your own TV!” said Liza Bello, 53, who also lives in the building.

Angel Rodrigues, 22, a Mister Softee driver who parks in the area, claimed he always follows the rules.

“I haven’t had any problems. I know the law. I stop playing the music when I pull over . . . I know that a few guys have gotten a citation for the music being loud,” he said.
