Man fatally struck by train in attempt to save jewelry

A train fatally struck a 64-year-old man who tried to retrieve a piece of jewelry he dropped on the tracks, cops said.

The victim was waiting at the southbound C platform at the Eighth Avenue and West 50th Street subway station when he dropped a chain onto the tracks around 11:05 a.m., according to police.

He jumped down on the tracks, and was struck by a train, cops said. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

Two hours later, a woman jumped in front of a No. 3 train in Brownsville, cops said.

The victim jumped into the oncoming train at the subway station on Livonia and Saratoga Avenues.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Their identities are pending proper family notification, cops said.
