Crook used different hats to rob 8 banks

This bank robber is a mad hatter.

Nassau cops are on the hunt for a cap-wearing crook who used different hats as a disguise to rob eight different banks over the past two months.

A poster of the man wanted for a string of robberies that date back to May 5 was distributed Friday as cops hunt for the thief, who hit up six Chase Banks, one Capital One location and one Bank of America in Long Island.

He switched up his look at each stop. With more fashion transformations than Lady Gaga, the robber cycled through styles including a black do-rag, a white-brimmed hat and a fitted blue baseball cap with a white star. At one location, he got more creative, donning a wig and a hoodie.

Police said he approached bank tellers with a note threatening violence and demanding money.

“We believe that it’s the same person and that he has done all of them,” said Detective Vincent Garcia, a spokesman for the Nassau County police department.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall man in his late 30s or early 40s. He may have used a brown two-tone SUV as his getaway vehicle.

Police have posted a $5,000 reward for anyone with information on the bandit.
