Jets’ preseason finale could pit Vick vs. Sanchez

The NFL announced the 2014 preseason schedule on Wednesday, and for the Jets, one game stands out: a trip to Philadelphia to play the Eagles on Aug. 28.

That game at Lincoln Financial Field features Michael Vick and Mark Sanchez going up against their former teams, though it’s possible that one or both quarterbacks will sit out the game.

The fourth game of the preseason is usually exclusively for reserves, and whether Vick plays could depend on his the quarterback competition with Geno Smith develops. Sanchez is set to compete for the Eagles’ backup job behind Nick Foles with fellow USC alum Matt Barkley.

Exact dates have not yet been set for the other three preseason games. The Jets will open their preseason schedule at home against Andrew Luck and the defending AFC South champion Colts between Aug. 7-10.

The Jets head to Cincinnati for their second preseason game between Aug. 14-18.

The Jets’ third preseason game — the game in which starters see the most action — is against the Giants, between Aug. 21-24.

It was in last season’s “MetLife Bowl” that Sanchez suffered a season-ending shoulder injury, in what turned out to be his final action as a Jet.
