Alderson wants Syndergaard in the majors — there’s one obstacle

Despite Noah Syndergaard’s rough season at Triple-A, he still could be called up when rosters expand next month.

Alderson said they could bring up the prospect and use him as a reliever in the final month of the regular season.

“There may be something to be gained from the familiarity he may acquire during that month,” Alderson said before the Mets’ 3-2 victory over the Braves Tuesday night at Citi Field. “Just what goes on at the major league level.”

Alderson said Syndergaard’s potential promotion could result in “an occasional appearance just out of the bullpen.”

But he also brought up the 40-man roster as a potential obstacle.

“We don’t have 40-man roster spots readily available for everyone we’d like to see in September,” Alderson said.

The Mets are currently at 37 players.

And he insisted the organization’s view on the right-hander hasn’t changed.

“Not at all,” Alderson said. “It’s mostly about roster management right now.”

The team could add some other arms to the pen, to make sure they don’t overwork Jenrry Mejia and Jeurys Familia, according to Alderson.

And he doesn’t expect Zack Wheeler or Jacob deGrom to have any problems with exceeding their innings limit before the end of the season.

Now that Bartolo Colon has cleared waivers, he’s eligible to be traded anywhere. He is expected to be back from his mother’s funeral in the Dominican Republic in time for his next start on Saturday- wherever that may be.

“July 31 is a deadline and Aug. 31 type of deadline,” Alderson said. “The offseason is an entirely separate trade period.”

Daniel Murphy sat out again Tuesday after leaving Sunday’s game in Los Angeles with a small strain in his right calf and called the injury “day-to-day.”

Wilmer Flores, who went 0-for-3, filled in at second.

Alderson said it was “unlikely” Daisuke Matsuzaka (elbow) would pitch a rehab start for Class-A Brooklyn on Thursday.

“He threw pretty extensively [Monday],” said Alderson, adding he expected the veteran hurler to be back when rosters are expanded on Sept. 1

Collins said Vic Black and Josh Edgin were unavailable. He did not elaborate why.

Alderson said he has been largely pleased with having the team’s top minor league affiliate in Las Vegas.

“We’ve been happy in Las Vegas,” the GM said. “Some of the distance issues and so forth notwithstanding, we’ve had a good relationship there. We haven’t had a lot of problems getting players here or wherever we may be because of the frequency of flights. There are some positives in it.”

Matt Harvey has annoyed the front office more than once this season when he’s talked, so he said Tuesday he’s done speaking to the media for the foreseeable future.

His latest transgression was doing a radio interview from Port St. Lucie while the Mets were playing.

Brandon Nimmo and Matt Reynolds were named to the Arizona Fall League.
