Chokehold witness’ arraignment delayed after asthma attack

The man who videotaped a Staten Island cop using a deadly chokehold remained in the hospital Monday, delaying his court arraignment on unrelated weapons charges.

Convicted felon Ramsey Orta, 22, was arrested Saturday night on Staten Island but later told cops during his booking that he was having an asthma attack, sources said.

They took him to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was eventually put in the pyschiatric unit, sources said.

He had been scheduled to appear before a judge on the weapons rap Monday.

On July 17, Orta used his cell phone to videotape the cop take-down of Staten Island dad Eric Garner, who police said was peddling illegal cigarettes.

Garner, who suffered from asthma, obesity and diabetes, was put in a chokehold and died minutes later.

The ME has ruled Garner’s death a homicide caused by neck and chest compression — and the Staten Island DA’s Office is now weighing whether to bring criminal charges against Officer Daniel Pantaleo, who used the chokehold on him.
