Auxiliary cops among 5 hurt in Queens crash

Four NYPD auxiliary officers were seriously injured in a gruesome accident in Queens on Monday — including two who were pinned under their police car, authorities said.

The officers were on duty in the car when it was struck by another vehicle just after 1:30 p.m. at 172nd Street and 73rd Avenue.

The officers and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to Booth Memorial Hospital in serious condition, authorities said.

None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

Police said they were not sure Monday who had the right of way in the crash, but they do not suspect criminality and the crash was still under investigation.

The police car sustained serious damage to its front end.

Debris from the accident littered the sidewalks at the intersection.

Members of the NYPD’s Auxiliary Police force volunteer in their local precincts and perform uniformed patrol in their communities.

Their patrol cars look similar to regular police cars to boost the appearance of law enforcement.
