Transgender cop says her firing was discriminatory

A Connecticut cop says she was canned after coming out as transgender.

Officer Francesca Quaranta — who was born Frank — was booted from the Middletown Police Department last week after filing a complaint with the state Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities claiming she was ridiculed by her co-workers over her gender identity.

“It was disgusting, unfair and mean,” said Quaranta, who has a 19-year-old son and remains married to her wife of 22 years. “They didn’t just take my job — they took my whole career.”

Quaranta, 47, of Newington, Conn., claims that the department’s misdeeds include her being wrongly written up for her bob-style wig and reprimanded for wearing nail polish and earrings. She was ordered to undergo a psychological test, which the city said she failed.

Mayor Daniel Drew told Quaranta in a letter that the city did “everything possible to create a safe and welcoming environment for you.”
