More USC trouble: Player quits team, calls coach racist

USC can only hope another one of its players is lying.

Just one day after cornerback Josh Shaw admitted his account of saving his drowning 7-year-old nephew — the supposed cause for why the senior suffered two sprained ankles — was fiction, cornerback Anthony Brown has quit the team, citing racism from new coach Steve Sarkisian.

Brown posted, and later deleted, a photo on Instagram on Thursday, saying, “Sark treated me like a slave in his Office…Can’t play for a racist MAN!!!!! #Fighton.”

Sarkisian was reportedly shocked by Brown’s actions, coming just after the coach had accepted some of the blame for touting Shaw’s “heroic” actions. The first-year coach spent the past five seasons at Washington, but was an assistant coach with the Trojans in the four seasons prior.

Sarkisian said the suspended Shaw could “potentially” return to the Trojans at some point this season.

“Obviously there’s some other things that need to take place,” Sarkisian said Thursday after USC’s practice. “But in the meantime, he’s got to take care of his health and take care of himself, and when the time is right to bring him back, we will.”

The coach said Shaw still hasn’t told the Trojans exactly how he sprained his ankles last weekend.

Two weeks ago, a loss against Fresno State would have been the worst way Sarkasian could have started the season. Two scandals later, the Bulldogs seem like the least of the Trojans’ problems.
