Bullets fly in reported trespassing

Bullets flew in a wild shootout between two cops and a gunman they spotted firing at another man on a Queens street early Saturday morning — but all four emerged unscathed when the shots failed to connect, authorities said.

A sergeant and an officer were en route to the scene of a reported trespassing at about 1:45 a.m. when they saw the shooter squeezing off rounds at his fleeing target near Lamont Avenue and Forley Street in Elmhurst, police said.

The uniformed cops got out of their marked police car and ordered the trigger-happy thug to drop his weapon, but he wheeled around and opened fire on the lawmen, according to officials.

The sergeant and officer returned fire, but the gunman fled before any of the three were injured, police said.

The accuracy-challenged assailant’s initial target also fled the fusillade and is not believed to have been hit, authorities added.

The gunman, whose loaded .22 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene, was in the wind as of Saturday night, cops said.

He is believed to be 20 to 25-years-old, about 5-foot-6 with a medium build, and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, dark pants, and white sneakers.
