Radio host’s vile Erin Andrews apology: ‘If she weighed 15 pounds more…’

As far as apologies go, this is awfully insincere.

On Wednesday morning, WEEI radio host Kirk Minihane said he made a mistake in calling Erin Andrews a “gutless b—h,” but then dug himself an even deeper hole with another out-of-bounds remark about the Fox sideline reporter.

“I used a word to reference Erin Andrews that I shouldn’t have used to reference Erin Andrews,” Minihane began. “I will completely cop to that, I said it, I admit it.”

OK, but hang on …

“I don’t think she’s very smart,” he said. “I think Fox only hired her because she’s good-looking. I think if she weighed 15 pounds more, she’d be a waitress at Perkins.”

Minihane was returning to the “Dennis and Callahan Show” after several days off the air for what WEEI made clear was a pre-planned vacation, not a suspension in any form. He had apologized via written statement last week.

Minihane initially slandered Andrews last Wednesday, the day after Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright admitted throwing “pipe shots” to Derek Jeter in the All-Star Game. The host was irate over Andrews’ one-question dugout interview with Wainwright, which he felt was too lenient and which ended with Andrews saying, “Thanks for clearing that up. Don’t you love social media?”

“I hate her! What a gutless b—h! Go away. Drop dead,” Minihane ranted. “I mean, seriously, what the hell is wrong with her? First of all, follow up. Second of all, the guy admitted he did it. He [admitted] he told reporters he threw a couple of pipe [shots]. How is that social media’s fault? I hate her. Don’t you love social media? Yeah … social media is — shut up. I’m sure she’s a nice person, but she’s … she’s probably a b—h. I hate her.”
