Thousands attend Dominican Day Parade in NYC

Thousands of revelers lined Sixth Avenue for Sunday’s raucous Dominican Day Parade, which rattled windows and shook the sidewalks with blaring music from its colorful floats.

Flag-waving spectators cheered as dancers twirled their blue dresses, and the traditional diablo cojuelo — or limping devil — paraded past in a costume of mirrors and bells, tossing balloons.

“I love to see people enjoying the culture,” said Emerito Beltran, 32, of The Bronx. “You see a lot of things that you mostly see [in the Dominican Republic]. Personalities from there come here to have fun. It’s a great day.”

Marchers included Gov. Cuomo, who led a delegation of officials that included Dominican-born City Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez.

Dascha Polanco of TV’s “Orange is the New Black” was among the celebs in attendance, and singer Henry Santos served as godfather of the parade.
