Colin Farrell in talks for ‘True Detective’ season 2

Colin Farrell is in talks to join the second season of “True Detective,” according to multiple reports.

The Irish actor has reportedly not yet closed a deal to join the HBO anthology drama, but is considered in strong contention to lead the cast.

Details on Season 2 have been scarce, with no set premiere date or episode order. Creator Nic Pizzolato has hinted only that it will feature a trio of leads and be set in California.

“Not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser-known venues of California,” he said in a recent “To The Best of Our Knowledge” podcast. “And we’re going to try to capture a certain psycho-sphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one.”

Jessica Chastain was previously rumored to be joining the second-season cast, but the actress shot down those reports last May.

Like Season 1 stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, Farrell would add movie-star cred to the “True Detective” cast. His film credits include “Total Recall,” “In Bruges” and “Alexander,” though he got his start in TV, starring in the BBC drama “Ballykissangel” from 1998-99.

The news of the Farrell talks came a day after “True Detective” earned 12 Primetime Emmy nominations, including outstanding drama series and lead actor nods for stars McConaughey and Harrelson.
