Are these the shots that killed Michael Brown?

A Ferguson man might have inadvertently recorded the fatal shots that brought down Michael Brown.

In audio broadcast by CNN late Monday night, at least 10 gunshots could be heard — six or seven rounds squeezed off within three seconds, followed by a three-second pause and then what sounds like another four shots fired in two seconds.

“I was very concerned about that pause … because it’s not just the number of gunshots, it’s how they’re fired,” Lopa Blumenthal, lawyer for the man who recorded the audio, told CNN.

“And that has a huge relevance on how this case might finally end up.”

FBI agents sat down with the man on Monday and now have the recordings, according to Blumenthal.

“They [FBI agents] thought this would be an important piece of the investigation,” she said.

The lawyer said she learned of the recordings through a mutual friend, before meeting with the man and getting his OK to call FBI investigators.

Brown was shot and killed earlier this month by officer Darren Wilson, in a confrontation that’s sparked a national debate on race and police conduct.

The man had no idea he might have recorded a key piece of evidence.

“He was in his apartment, he was talking to a friend on a video chat,” Blumenthal said. “He heard loud noises and at the moment, at the time, he didn’t realize the import of what he was hearing.”
