‘Orange Is the New Black’ putting Steenburgen behind bars

Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black” is adding another veteran actress to its ranks for Season Three.

Mary Steenburgen — a Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner for 1980’s “Melvin and Howard” — has been cast in the women’s prison dramedy starring Taylor Schilling. She tweeted the news Thursday, saying “Very excited to go to my first wardrobe fitting of OITNB! Will I be in orange or black?:)”

Details on Steenburgen’s character were not available. Her casting follows guest roles on “Justified,” “30 Rock” and “Bored to Death” (alongside husband Ted Danson) in recent years.

Netflix renewed “Orange Is the New Black” for a 13-episode third season last month, with production already underway. Season 2 premiered on the streaming service on June 6 and featured new cast member Lorraine Toussaint.
