40-year-old deaf woman hears for the first time

If this doesn’t make you teary, there is something fundamentally wrong with you.

Joanne Milne had never heard a sound. No music, no laughter, no waves crashing on the beach. Then she got fitted with electronic cochlear implants.

This is the moment she hears a voice for the first time. And then hears her own.

Joanne had a rare condition called Usher Syndrome causing her to be born without hearing and to eventually lose her sight in her 20s. Her mom recorded this footage as 40-year-old Joanne becomes overwhelmed by the incredible sounds.
