Cardinals RB Jonathan Dwyer arrested for aggravated assault

NFL running back Jonathan Dwyer was deactivated by the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday after he was arrested for aggravated assault in yet another domestic violence allegation against an NFL star, multiple reports said.

The 25-year-old running back was arrested in Phoenix for aggravated assault and preventing someone from calling 911, according to CBS News.

The violent episode took place in July between Dwyer and a woman he has a relationship with, according to AZCentral.

He was arrested Wednesday after an investigation, the site said.

The Cardinals released a statement Wednesday night that said they found out about the allegations this afternoon and took the “immediate step” to remove Dwyer from all team activities.

The charges against Dwyer come after a number of gridiron stars have been hit with a slew of domestic violence charges.

The Minnesota Vikings’ Adrian Peterson was finally benched Wednesday morning after being charged with beating his 4-year-old son with a switch.

Ray Rice was canned by the Baltimore Ravens after a surveillance video of him knocking his wife out in an elevator was leaked to TMZ.
