Boeheim: Carmelo’s decision will ride on Knicks’ plan

It’s the question everyone in New York wants to know: Will Carmelo Anthony return to the Knicks? His former coach at Syracuse, Jim Boeheim, isn’t sure, but he is certain of a few things regarding Anthony.

“I know that he wants to win, as he said [Thursday]. I know he loves being in New York, he wanted to come to New York,” the legendary coach told The Post in a phone interview.

“It’s a good fit for him. It just depends on what they can do over the next year or two.”

Boeheim doesn’t have any inside information – the two haven’t talked recently – but he knows how much failing to make the playoffs pained his former pupil.

“He’s driven to win, and win a championship,” Boeheim said. “He came to college, he won the NCAA Tournament, and he’s won two gold medals in the Olympics. His sole motivation is to play well and win a championship. I don’t know how you really position yourself to do that. It’s not something that’s very easy.”

Anthony knows that all too well.
