‘Beauty and the Beast’ live-action movie in the works

Tie your napkin ’round your neck, cherie, because “Beauty and the Beast” is back. A live-action version of the 1991 classic Disney animated film is in the works, according to a report by Variety.

The film will bring the tale as old as time via director Bill Condon, who helmed the 2006 “Dreamgirls” adaptation, as well as the final two “Twilight” movies.

“Beauty and the Beast” is widely considered one of Disney’s best films, earning an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, the first ever animated movie to do so. Three of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s songs from the movie were nominated for Best Original Song, with the title track sung by Angela Lansbury taking the crown.

Disney is currently on a roll reimagining its archives. Its Johnny Depp-starring “Alice in Wonderland” was a worldwide smash, and last weekend’s “Maleficent,” a new take on “Sleeping Beauty,” has already amassed $183 million at the box office.

Two other live-action revamps are already in the works. “Cinderella,” starring Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother, opens in March.

Jon Favreau is also working on a version of “The Jungle Book,” which has reportedly cast Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba and Lupita Nyong’o.
