Chris Farley, Zach Galifianakis … Mark Teixeira?
The Yankees first baseman shows his offbeat comedic side in a series of YES Network videos as the host of “Foul Territory,” displaying a semi-awkward, witless persona descended from Farley’s celebrity interview skits on “Saturday Night Live” and Galifianakis’ “Between Two Ferns.”
Teixeira has not been known as a particularly effusive personality during his six seasons with the Yankees, though he has opened up recently when answering questions about the persistent right wrist injury that has muddled his season.
Here, in a mock-adversarial session with YES reporter Jack Curry, the mood is much lighter.
It’s reminiscent of the character of the breathless, unprepared host of “The Chris Farley Show.”
And the cadence of the videos seems to take hints from Galifianakis’ Q&A sketches for Funny or Die.
