‘Strain’ worms its way into a second season

‘The Strain” is set to infect viewers for another summer.

FX has renewed the grisly drama for a 13-episode second season, which will premiere next year.

The Sunday night drama from co-creator Guillermo del Toro and executive producer Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) is averaging 4.5 million viewers in its first season — 11 million weekly viewers when delayed VOD and online viewing are included.

“The Strain” is based on the book series by del Toro and Chuck Hogan, and stars Corey Stoll (“House of Cards”) as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City that fights a virus with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.

The series has seven episodes remaining in its first season, which airs its finale on Oct. 5.
