This week’s couple: Early drinkers

The only thing better than being early to a date is when your date shows up early too. That was the case when Lisa, 23, met Liam, 25, at the new Mexican eatery Horchata in the West Village.

Both had plans to get a drink before they met face-to-face, only to find themselves taking their first sips with each other. From there, the two realized they have more in common than early arrivals and using alcohol as liquid courage.

He said:

I wanted to show up extra early to Horchata and impress Lisa with my promptness, but she beat me there.

I had no time to compose myself: I had to think on my feet and dive right into the date.

I wouldn’t say she was obviously my type, but once we got to talking, I was attracted to her.

We covered most of the typical conversation topics — hometown, education, work.

Lisa has a great sense of humor and a bit of a quirky side — like she’d be down for some wild adventures.

Horchata was a great date spot. It had low lighting but a festive atmosphere. I was very impressed with the Brussels sprouts quesadilla.

Lisa is cool. I want to go out again to see if there’s real chemistry.

We exchanged numbers and plan to meet next week.

She said:

I was nervous before meeting Liam, so I arrived 15 minutes early. I wanted to order a drink to calm my nerves.

Funnily enough, Liam had the same idea! Right away I felt like I could be myself around him.

A lot of weird coincidences came up. For example, his roommate and I are from the same town.

There weren’t any awkward pauses in the conversation, which pleasantly surprised me.

I really liked Horchata. We ordered the guacamole sampler, and we also loved the Mexican street corn. There was a lot of plate sharing.

We called it a night after dinner, but we swapped numbers and hugged goodbye before getting on our trains home.

I didn’t feel a romantic spark but I would definitely hang out with him again.
