Cronuts are so 2013. A new wave of Frankenfoods is coming to New York City — and to TV.
To coincide with the Sunday premiere of Spike TV’s new reality show “Frankenfood” — which challenges amateur chefs to prove their mash-up monstrosity meals are the best new creation — a food truck is hitting cities across the country serving its own Frankenfoods. Thursday and Friday in Manhattan, you can taste some flavors that might make even a mad scientist wince, such as Spam sushi, fried Slim Jim mac ’n’ cheese balls and espresso-crusted chicken tacos.
Find the truck Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 345 Hudson St., between King and Charlton streets; and from 2 to 4 p.m. at 75 Varick St., between Grand and Watts streets. On Friday, it’ll be at 825 Seventh Ave., between 53rd and 54th streets from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and at 299 W. Houston St., between Greenwich and Hudson streets from 2 to 4 p.m. The food is free, and each customer can try two sample portions.
Check out some of the frightening mash-ups the truck will be serving up below:
Other trucks are also making stops in Philadelphia, Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, Miami, San Francisco and Washington, DC. Follow the Frankenfood Twitter account for more info.
