City to install security cameras, lighting in public housing projects

Mayor de Blasio announced the city is installing 214 security cameras at East Harlem’s Lincoln Houses and erecting 165 light towers in public housing facilities throughout the city to crack down on crime.

“We have to keep making these developments better and safer,” said de Blasio.

The city will also remove about eight miles of outdated construction sheds and scaffolding by next spring at New York City Housing Authority facilities.

Police Chief of Housing Carlos Gomez said that since July 1, crime has gone down more than 4 percent.
