This week’s couple: Familiar faces

It finally happened: A pair of daters we assumed were strangers were not. Maya, 24, and Matt, 26, met offline at a house party, a month before their “blind” date we set up for them at the romantic, farm-fresh restaurant Green Table in Chelsea Market. Their initial encounter was a brief introduction, but find out why the second time was a charm for them both.

He said:

I arrived at Green Table, settled down at a cozy table and put on my game face. When Maya was brought to my table and I turned around to greet her, she said the four words one least expects to hear on a blind date: “Hey, I know you.” As fate would have it, we met once before, briefly, at a house party.

After realizing our “blind” date was not so blind after all, we ordered whiskey cocktails and settled into a free-wheeling chat about water polo, geology and our shared home county of Westchester. The meal was delicious — I had the jerk tofu, and she ordered a chicken pot pie. We also shared a mini rhubarb pie with lavender ice cream.

I realized Maya and I had some chemistry. We ended the date with a little bit of hand-holding and exchanged numbers.

She said:

I recognized Matt as soon as I saw him. We met before at a party, where he approached me and we talked for a bit. I was super nervous but I found it comical that we met already.

Matt is cute, but if he got a makeover he would be very cute. He is also very nice — and a little dorky. We have a lot in common: We’re both from Westchester, have a ton of sisters. We even both broke our noses once.

Green Table was a great date place. The service was excellent.

Matt was a little awkward at certain moments, but very sweet. We exchanged numbers at the end of the night. I would definitely hang out with him again. I see a potential romantic interest.
