Grandpa strikes out in bid to take grandson to Mets’ Opening Day

It was one “K” and you’re out for a kindergartner whose grandpa wanted to take him to the old ballgame Monday.

Little Xavier Ibrahim couldn’t meet the Mets on Opening Day because a judge in his parents’ divorce case sided with the boy’s dad, who didn’t want his son to miss a day of school for the game.

Vincent Simone, 63, of Garden City, LI, said he and his 6-year-old grandson are huge Mets fans and that attending the season opener with his “PopPop” at CitiField is a treasured tradition for Xavier.

“I had him there ever since he was born, I took him in his little carriage and he slept like a baby, but he was there,” Simone told The Post about Xavier, who lives with his dad, Hasan Ibrahim, in Wyckoff, NJ.

“It was a tradition. The Mets even put our names up on the scoreboard and welcomed us,” he said, sharing a photo that showed “Mets Welcome Xavier Ibrahim and PopPop” on the scoreboard at a past Opening Day.

But then the boy’s 35-year-old dad and mom, Samantha Simone Ibrahim, 37, entered into what the elder Simone called a bitter divorce battle in Bergen County.

Hasan was granted full custody of his son while Samantha got visitation rights.

In January, the boy’s mom returned to court seeking expanded visitation to include various school breaks and vacation days — as well as permission for grandpa to take Xavier to Monday’s 1 p.m. Mets home opener in Flushing.

The boy’s dad agreed to some of the requests, but balked at having the boy taken out of school for the day game, and the judge agreed.
