Ike Davis gets first base start, but Duda, Satin to see time

The long-awaited solution to the Mets’ first-base logjam is no resolution at all.

Ike Davis got the start for Monday’s opener against the Nationals based on his 4-for-11 (.363) lifetime numbers against Stephen Strasburg, but Terry Collins indicated he will shuffle Davis, Lucas Duda and Josh Satin at first base on a daily basis.

But before the Mets’ 9-7, 10-inning loss to the Nationals, GM Sandy Alderson said the carousel likely won’t continue for an extended period.

The Mets will have a roster move to make later this week, when Jonathan Niese is expected to be removed from the disabled list. Andrew Brown is the extra position player for now, but Brown also delivered a three-run homer on Monday.

“I’m not suggesting it happens at first base, but we’re going to have to address our position players [by Sunday],” Alderson said. “I don’t expect this to be a fluid situation that goes on indefinitely.”

Satin is scheduled to start at first base on Wednesday against Nationals lefty Gio Gonzalez and Collins indicated he soon will find a start for Duda.

Davis went 0-for-2 with a walk on Monday.

Daniel Murphy traveled to Florida before the game to await the birth of his first child. Eric Young Jr. got the start at second base, but Collins expects to have Murphy back in the lineup on Wednesday.

Chris Young (right quadriceps) was on the bench, but indicated he expects to play on Wednesday. Young said he felt something in the quad on his final at-bat on Saturday in Montreal, where the Mets played an exhibition game.

“It doesn’t feel terrible, and I think it’s a thing [that’s] going to be one day,” Young said.

The Mets signed veteran outfielder Bobby Abreu to a minor-league deal. The 40-year-old Abreu was cut by the Phillies in spring training. He will report to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Jenrry Mejia, who suffered a right forearm contusion on a batted ball in his last appearance, has been cleared to start on Friday against the Reds.

The announced sellout crowd of 42,442 was the second largest Mets crowd at Citi Field in the ballpark’s six seasons, according to the club. The Mets drew 42,516 on July 3, 2012 against the Phillies.
