They may call him “The Halfman,” but Tyrion Lannister of “Game of Thrones” has led nine lives. In fact, the irascible imp has cheated death more times than he’s cheated on his wife. Here’s how the HBO hero does it.

Season 1, Episode 5
Tyrion is almost murdered on a march led by Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), who has him arrested for an attempted hit on her son. His captors cut his bonds just as an attacker is about to strike.
Season 1, Episode 6
Facing a death sentence at the Eyrie, Tyrion demands a trial by combat. He finds a champion in the mercenary “sellsword” Bronn (Jerome Flynn), who wins the fight.
Season 1, Episode 8
On the way from the trial to the camp of his warring father, another wild group of tribesmen attack Tyrion, who cleverly negotiates and turns the tribesmen into his allies.
Season 1, Episode 9
Instructed by his father Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) to lead his hill tribes into a deadly battle, the Imp is trampled into unconsciousness. When he awakens, the battle is won.
Season 2, Episode 4
Tyrion rescues his future wife Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) from Meryn Trant (Ian Beattie), who accuses Tyrion of threatening the king — but Tyrion toughs it out.
Season 2, Episode 8
In the pivotal Battle of the Blackwater, Tyrion fights bravely, but an attempt is made on his life. Tyrion’s squire, Podrick (Daniel Portman), kills the attacker.
Season 4, Episode 6
Tried for the murder of King Joffrey, Tyrion yells that he refuses to be put to death for a crime he did not commit, and once more demands a trial by combat, his second.
Season 4, Episode 7
No one wants to stand as his champion in the Joffrey murder trial-by-combat. Tyrion gains another 11th-hour reprieve when Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) offers his services.
Season 4, Episode 8
The Mountain and Martell fight to the end, and Martell loses. But Tyrion isn’t finished yet. Like a cat, the “GoT” fan favorite gets nine lives . . . or does he?
