‘America’s Got Talent’ bests ‘Rising Star’ premiere

It was a mixed bag for the premiere of ABC’s new singing competition show “Rising Star” Sunday night. The live series — which has viewers vote via an app to determine which contestants advance in real time — was the most social series on TV Sunday night, generating more than 129,000 tweets.

That ranked it above the final season premiere of “True Blood” (106,000 tweets), “America’s Got Talent” (33,000 tweets) and “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” (29,000 tweets) in Nielsen’s Twitter TV ratings.

But among viewers,”Rising Star” was beat out, averaging 5.1 million viewers to “AGT”s 8 million viewers from 9-11 p.m. (NBC moved “AGT” — which normally airs on Tuesdays — to Sunday to directly compete against the debut)

“Rising Star” — featuring celebrity experts Brad Paisley, Kesha and Ludacris and host Josh Groban — also fell short of ABC”s last stab at the singing show genre, “Duets.” That short-lived series (Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke) premiered to 6.8 million viewers back in May 2012.
