Paul O’Neill to receive ‘biggest honor I’ve ever been given’

Paul O’Neill won’t be bashing any Gatorade coolers on Saturday.

The Yankees outfielder, who won four World Series with the Yankees and has stayed with the franchise as an analyst with the YES Network, will have his plaque added to Monument Park before the Yankees game vs. the Indians.

“You never expect anything like that,” O’Neill said. “I know there were great times in the ’90s with the four world championships. Those are teams that accomplished a lot, but those aren’t the things you are thinking about when you are playing. … It’s the biggest honor I’ve ever been given.”

YES will have a special one-hour pregame show that includes a career retrospective, testimonials and a chat with Jack Curry.

“My family is coming in, it’s going to be a very exciting day,” he said. “Monument Park is something I have looked at and marveled at with the tradition. … It’s an unbelievable honor that I thank the Yankees for.”
