Starving model ‘shoplifts’ Pop-Tarts from a supermarket

Somebody buy this girl a decent meal!

A rail-thin runway model was apparently so hungry that she stuffed Pop-Tarts, a cake and even boxes of cake mix into her handbag and pockets at a Harlem Pathmark and then tried to run off, cops said.

Carb-craving catwalker Mary Jean Conniff — a 6-foot-tall blond beauty who wore a stunning cream-colored dress in the Fall 2012 Victor de Souza fashion show — was busted for allegedly stealing the sweets from the supermarket at East 125th Street and Lexington Avenue.

“I don’t want to judge her, but maybe she needed it,” a worker at the store told The Post Wednesday. “Maybe she was hungry and had a sweet tooth.”

According to a criminal complaint, Conniff, 23, a Detroit native who gave cops a Bronx address that appeared to be an office, looked to be planning a feast that was extra heavy on model-poison carbs.

“[A security guard] observed the defendant remove one cake, three boxes of Pop-Tarts, two boxes of cake mix and several other items from a shelf and conceal the items inside the defendant’s purse and pockets,” the complaint said.

Security followed the willowy mannequin outside, recovered the treats and held Conniff until cops arrived at about 4:30 p.m. May 5 and arrested her.

Conniff does not appear to have scored any notable work since the de Souza show. The Argentina-born fashion designer, whose website lists Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker, Naomi Campbell, Rihanna and other A-listers as his clients, did not return calls for comment on Conniff.

In Manhattan Criminal Court on Wednesday, the starving model wore a demure black jacket and slacks as she quietly agreed to one day of community service. She declined to comment, rolling her eyes at a reporter.

If she stays out of trouble for six months, the petit larceny charge would be reduced to a violation and the case sealed.

Conniff’s lawyer, Thomas Kenniff, called the bust a misunderstanding.

“There was no finding of guilt against my client. There’s no reason to think this was anything more than a misunderstanding. She will go on to live a law-abiding life as she has always done,” he said.
