Former Giant Luke Petitgout in court hearing

At a court hearing Wednesday, the lawyer for former New York Giants lineman Luke Petitgout called the man his client is accused of slugging in a jealous rage a greedy opportunist.

Petitgout, donning a blue suit, pink tie and 4 o’clock shadow, looked downcast as he stood beside his lawyer Dennis Ring at an appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court on the misdemeanor assault raps.

“From the beginning the complainant in this case appeared not to be cooperating with the police or the District Attorney’s office,” Ring said after the brief appearance. “Mr Constantinides, after consulting with some kind of civil attorney, has apparently found Jesus, which I believe is a result of his hope to obtain some kind of civil judgment against my client.”

The disgraced athlete stormed into 48 Lounge in a jealous rage and punched John Constantinides, 43, of Queens, then slapped his wife Jennifer in front of other patrons June 5, authorities said.

This was the second brush with the law in less than a year for the 6-foot-6, 310-pound ex tackle, who was also busted last August when he allegedly assaulted Jennifer during a disastrous wedding-anniversary celebration.

He was accused of smacking her in the head with her own purse and shoving her out of their car in the Meatpacking District where they were celebrating 13 years of marriage.

Jennifer, 37, has finally had enough of her mercurial hubby, who last played for the Giants in 2006, and filed for divorce last month.

“Most important thing in my client’s life are his three daughters and for their sake he has absolutely no interest in litigating a matrimonial action in the press,” Ring said before taking a dig at Jennifer. “We’d hope his wife would feel the same way but sadly it doesn’t appear so.”

The mother of three booted her estranged hubby from their home in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, sources said.
