Scare prepared hero auntie for baby rescue

A Miami schoolteacher was touched by an angel seven years ago when her own son almost died — and then grew wings on Thursday when she saved her nephew’s life.

Pamela Rauseo, 37, was able to breathe life into her 5-month-old nephew, Sebastian de la Cruz, on the side of a Miami expressway because she learned how to give infant CPR when her son also stopped breathing at 5 months of age.

“Our little son Alex had a similar incident, where he stopped breathing,” Pamela’s husband Eddie, 38, told The Post.

“While we were in the hospital for a week waiting for our son to recover, we were given CPR training in case it were to happen again . . . It saved our nephew’s life.”

Pamela jumped out of her SUV in bumper-to- bumper traffic with the baby in her arms, screaming for help when little Sebastian stopped breathing and started turning blue.

When she realized there were no medical professionals nearby, she dropped to her knees on the side of the road and performed the life-saving procedure on the infant until a nearby motorist and a cop took over.

“No one knew CPR, so she had to do it herself, she did it based on her training seven years prior,” Eddie Rauseo said.

“We know that there were many people that Sebastian could have been with at that moment, but we are firm believers that God played a role in putting Pamela there.”

Officer Amauris Bastidas helped Pamela and motorist Lucila Godoy perform chest compressions on Sebastian until EMTs arrived. The baby started breathing but then stopped again.

“It was like the nightmare started all over again,” Pamela told reporters.

After more chest compressions, “The baby finally reacted, and this time it was for much longer — until the fire/rescue came.”

Pamela waited to alert her sister and Sebastian’s mother, Paola Vargas, 27, after the baby was in the hospital, where he was in stable condition Friday.

“We’re confident he’ll be fine,” Pamela said. “We just need to get to the root of what’s causing these issues for him.”

Pamela, a mother of three, regularly babysits Sebastian while her sister works as a nurse at a nearby hospital.

“[Pamela] didn’t want to scare her or worry her at work,” husband Eddie said.

“She’s totally calm, that’s her personality. Whenever there’s a crazy situation or stressful or out of the ordinary, she’s the one who is calming everyone down.”

“I don’t know how she does it.”
