Cuomo refuses city’s homeless rental subsidy request

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he’s refusing the city’s request for money to help subsidize rental costs for the homeless because the proposal came too late to be included in this year’s budget.

“The budget train has basically left the station,” Cuomo said.

Cuomo’s tough love came as Mayor Bill de Blasio tried to characterize their dealings as a “miscommunication” between administrations.

But state sources say de Blasio’s administration was repeatedly told to get the proposal in and still missed a Feb. 20 deadline.

“The mayor has yet to submit a formal proposal or schedule meetings on the issue,” one state source said.

City officials said the mayor has been clear that the program was a priority and that conversations were ongoing.
