‘Madman’ formally charged with stabbing 2 kids, 1 fatally

The madman who knifed two innocent kids in the elevator of a Brooklyn housing project over the weekend was charged Thursday with killing one of them and badly injuring another.

Daniel St. Hubert, 27, was charged Thursday with murder, attempted murder assault and possession of a weapon for slaughtering Prince Joshua Avitto, 6, and Mikayla Capers, 7, on Sunday.

“Murderer! You deserve death!” screamed supporters of the young victims as St. Hubert was taken by police from the 90th Precinct Station House in Brooklyn to be arraigned.

The two kids were on their way to grab some ice cream when the alleged killer entered the elevator and hacked them with a steak knife after they refused to quiet down.

Avitto died of his injuries but Capers, who had been stabbed 16 times, miraculously survived.

St. Hubert was picked up Wednesday night after cops tracked his cell phone to his mom’s Jamaica, Queens neighborhood, where he had been wandering around with a kitchen knife similar to the one used in Sunday’s bloodbath.

The slain boy’s mom, Aricka McClinton, thanked the NYPD for catching her son’s killer, and embraced several officers outside of the building where her son was killed, but said she will not rest until St. Hubert is put away for good.

“I want to see justice served because my baby is gone,” the distraught mom said Thursday. “He may be in jail but my baby can’t come back.”

“NYPD, you all keep strong. I am praying for each and every one of you and I want to say thank you. I can’t say thank you enough.”

St. Hubert is also suspected of stabbing 18-year-old Tanaya Grant-Copeland to death last Friday in East New York with a similar murder weapon, authorities said.

Police said he is believed to have been in the area at the time of the teen’s death based on his EBT transactions, which St. Hubert apparently used at a bodega near Stanley and Van Siclen avenues.

“The tests are still being conducted but given the developments, he’s still considered a prime suspect in that one,” said NYPD spokesman Stephen Davis. “That’s based on proximity, the type and brand of knife.”

Cops also believe St. Hubert is responsible for the non-fatal stabbing of Kyle Moore, a 53-year-old homeless man, early Wednesday morning on the 1 train platform of the 18th Street Station in Chelsea.

“We have witness information and video of him, not directly in the crime but directly in the vicinity of the crime at the same time,” Davis continued.
